For centuries, ceramists from Nabeul, Tunis and Djeba have been successful in blending the contribution of eastern and western art with ancient local traditions. This has earned Tunisia the reputation of being one of the richest producers of ceramic tiles in the Mediterranean. The hand molded terracotta, consisting of the subtle mixture of clay and volcanic lava, magnifies pigments and glazes conferring them luster and intensity. The crackle glaze applied to the hand painted decoration gives the object a remarkable depth evoking the magic of old tiles.
